AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of the Texas Optometric Association PAC (TOPAC) for the 2010 general election.
"Gov. Perry has always stuck to his principles and fought for what he believes is best for the people of Texas," said Dr. Laurie Sorrenson, TOPAC Chair. "TOPAC is pleased to endorse him in his re-election and thankful for a leader who has unabashedly fought to uphold our state’s rights in the face of federal legislation that threatens the efficiency and affordability of our health care system."
TOPAC supports legislative efforts to benefit the safe and effective practice of eye and vision care in Texas. The efforts of the Texas Optometric Association and TOPAC have resulted in a long line of legislative successes that benefit optometrists and their patients across the state of Texas, including passage of the Medicaid Direct Access bill in 2007, which allows Medicaid patients to see optometrists without referrals from primary care physicians.
"Texas optometrists are crucial to our health care system and to upholding many Texans’ excellent quality of life," said Gov. Perry. "I am honored to receive the support of the Texas Optometric Association PAC in my bid for re-election and I look forward to helping ensure their profession has the tools it needs to compete and succeed in the years to come."
