GRAPEVINE - Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) HOMEPAC for re-election in 2010. The HOMEPAC Board of Trustees voted unanimously to endorse Gov. Perry for re-election. The governor also spoke at the TAB Conference.

“I am truly humbled by the endorsement of those who have worked with me to build a state that is the envy of our nation,” said Gov. Perry. “It is especially fitting to garner the support of a group of people who spend every day building, because I have invested the majority of my adult life working to build Texas into a place where people are free to pursue their dreams with less worry about government interference.”

“Gov. Perry continues to demonstrate a commitment to keeping Texas open for business with his steadfast dedication to low tax, limited government policies that make the Texas housing market the envy of the nation,” said David Miller, chairman of the HOMEPAC Board of Trustees.

In his remarks at the TAB Conference, Gov. Perry underscored the comparative strength of the Texas economy to the rest of the nation and the state’s focus on job creation. He also highlighted the importance of fighting against misguided federal health care and cap-and-trade proposals, which would impose massive costs upon Texas taxpayers and threaten to devastate the Texas economy.

“We need to pave the way for even more jobs by purging unnecessary laws and regulations that stifle Texas entrepreneurs, the people like Texas builders who actually create jobs,” Gov. Perry said. “We need to be more aggressive than ever in clearing the way for those jobs, especially at the federal level. The last thing Washington should do is pass laws that will jack up energy costs, damage our healthcare system and increase taxes on working Americans. We all need to send Washington a message to stop the spending, stop the bailouts, stop piling up debt like there’s no tomorrow. There is a tomorrow and our children have to live in it.”

Earlier this month, Builder Magazine updated its 2009 “Healthiest Housing Markets” report and included four Texas cities in their Top Ten including Austin (No. 1), San Antonio (No. 2), Houston (No. 4) and Dallas-Fort Worth (No. 9). In addition, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, Texas leads the nation in ENERGY STAR homes built, with 31,995 completed in 2008, which accounts for 41 percent of the Texas market and more homes than the next 8 states combined.

Founded in 1946, the Texas Association of Builders is an affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders and has 34 local home builders associations across Texas. With a membership of over 10,500 representing 500,000 jobs and $35 billion of the Texas economy, the Texas Association of Builders plays a crucial role in providing housing for Texans.
