Texas Apartment Association Endorses Governor Perry's Re-election

August 3, 2010

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of the Texas Apartment Association (TAA) for the 2010 general election.

"Under Gov. Perry’s leadership, Texas has built a strong economy that has withstood the challenges of the national recession better than any other state," said George B. Allen, CAE, Executive Vice President of TAA. "There is no question he is the leader Texas needs moving forward, which is why the Texas Apartment Association is proud to endorse Gov. Perry for re-election. The multifamily housing industry is dependent on a strong economy to maintain its growth and stability, and Gov. Perry’s efforts to responsibly manage the state budget and create a climate that allows businesses to thrive have been crucial to the success of our industry. We look forward to working with him to ensure Texas remains the nation's economic powerhouse."

TAA is a non-profit statewide trade association dedicated to unifying rental housing professionals through education, legislative advocacy and member services. TAA members are rental housing owners, builders, developers, property management firms and companies that supply products or services to rental properties. TAA has more than 10,500 members and represents more than 1.75 million units throughout the state. TAA owner/management company members provide housing for more than 4 million Texans; employ an estimated 75,000 full-time employees; represent property with a market value of more than $150 billion; and pay property taxes exceeding $3 billion a year.

"I am proud of the contribution the Texas Apartment Association makes every day to meet the needs of our growing population and thriving economy," said Gov. Perry. "They have also proven a crucial asset in the effort to help Texans in need – I will never forget their service to our state when they helped place people in need during Hurricane Katrina. I am honored to receive their endorsement and remain committed to working with them to ensure their members have the tools they need to operate successfully well into the future."
