Governor Perry: "Thanks, But No Thanks" To Washington Strings

Yesterday at the Texas Daily Newspaper Association (TDNA), Governor Perry took a moment with reporters to respond to an attack his political opponent had made earlier in the day.

While some reporters felt that Governor Perry's opponent struggled to find her position on the issue of Washington bailout money, Governor Perry delivered an authoritative statement on why he chose to reject federal money with strings attached.

Listen to the audio clip for yourself below:

If you can't listen for some reason, here is the text of what Governor Perry said:

I think most of the people of the State of Texas understand that having Washington, DC give us a bunch of requirements and then wipe their hands of it and say "oh, and by the way, in two years that money's going to be gone"...

For us to have taken that money would have been irresponsible, and that's the reason we stood up and said, "we made the right decisions, no thank you Washington."

I think most Texans look at Washington, DC today and see what's going on up there and they're like, "listen, the last thing we want is Washington coming down here to Texas and telling us how to run our state."

So we don't think we want to model Texas after Washington, DC, so I respectfully disagree with her.

Heard you on WBAP

Governor,
Just heard you on WBAP! You did a great job, Sir.
You're right, It is wrong for a Senator to tell the state they must take UI funding when there is NO committment to fund it long term from the Fed. Washington should stop with the unfunded mandates. When Washington can run its business as well as you have run Texas, then they can think about suggesting options. But it looks like we are a long way from that.

And thank you for paying attention to the Texas Coast.

Our State is in Great Shape,
Our Governor Deserves Credit
