Texas Gov. Rick Perry is in England, Germany, Poland and Ukraine this week, ostensibly for an economic development mission. However, with major speeches Tuesday at the Royal United Services Institute in London and Thursday at University of Warsaw and visits with world leaders, he plainly is out to demonstrate he has the gravitas to operate on the world stage. If his speech today is any indication, things are looking bright for his presidential resume.

Gov. Perry Visits Troops Deploying to West Africa in Fight against Ebola

FORT HOOD – Gov. Rick Perry today visited U.S. Army troops preparing to deploy to the West African nation of Liberia to help combat the spread of Ebola. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control calls this epidemic in West Africa the largest Ebola outbreak in history.

Gov. Perry Tours Galveston National Laboratory

GALVESTON – A day after announcing the creation of a new task force aimed at combatting infectious disease, Gov. Rick Perry today toured the Galveston National Laboratory at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. On the tour, the governor received an overview of the work the lab is conducting to better understand and respond to pandemic disease. The facility is one of two National Biocontainment Laboratories in the United States and studies infectious diseases such as Ebola.

Gov. Perry Names Dr. Brett Giroir to Lead Texas Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced the creation of the Texas Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response, which will assess and enhance the state’s existing capabilities to prepare for and respond to pandemic disease, such as the Ebola virus. The governor named Dr. Brett P. Giroir as director of the task force, heading up a team of internationally renowned experts in epidemiology and infectious disease.
